A big consideration when preparing for your portrait session is what to wear. Your outfits can make or break the final product. I’ve done a lot of photo sessions over the years, and as a result, I’ve gleaned a bit of wisdom on the subject, and formed an opinion too!
Keep in mind, you want to be… you… for your photos. Don’t wear a style or color of clothing that you would never wear any other time. When you look back at your photos, you want to remember your family and loved ones as they were in that moment. The style in the photos should reflect your style and who you are in that moment.
With that said, there are some do’s and don’ts to consider as you choose your fashions for picture day.
DO choose a complementary color palette.
DO consider the time of year when selecting a color palette.
DO start with clothing you already own, if possible, and build the wardrobe around a favorite piece.
DO accessorize! Think layers, scarves, jewelry, hair accessories, etc.
DON’T forget about shoes!
DON’T bring in too many busy patterns. Keep it simple and classic.
DON’T distract from the most important part of your photos (you!) with logos and character clothing.
